The Fab 50-50-50-50
Working with thousands of small business owners and sales professionals over the past 10 years, I’ve seen the power of innovative ideas – in fact people who know me know that I usually have 3-5 helpful ideas to grow their business when they speak with me. I enjoy sharing and have made a living from “paying” customers – so this is a bonus to speak, write, and collaborate with entrepreneurs in a darker time of recession. Many people I’ve spoken to this year have lost jobs and never networked outside of their “world” – they need new skills and they need to think bigger.
Toward the end of 2009, I thought about 2010 since I would be turning 50 years old. One day, I went to an insurance company to drop a payment off and saw this woman in a cubicle with about 12 or 15 black balloons. She looked frumpy and sort of dragged along. Her wonderful co-workers had given her those balloons – and for some reason, she kept them in her cube. I vowed at that very moment not to be “that woman” for at least another ten years!
I decided to craft a fun year full of what I love: to help small biz owners, help non-profits, gain better health, and travel to the people. However, I would not do a “50 state tour” but rather would go wherever I wanted – so I have made contacts with wonderful people all over, specifically through Twitter, Facebook, Allbusiness, and my blogs. People have sent me ideas of places to go and people to meet.
The sessions I do are two hours and do not cost anyone to attend. To do this, I need a no-cost venue (or a venue can become a local sponsor) and I need local folks to help spread the word. That’s it. I like to meet directors and staff of local non-profits while I am around and am consulting pro-bono to non-profits all year. So – please connect to me….. you never know what may come of it. Four Goals of the Fabulous 50-50-50-50:
1. 50 minutes outside every day (my quest to gain better health and oxygen this year)
2. Hold 50 business events (inviting non-profits along the way)
3. Speak with 50 non-for-profits about “business” ideas to grow their funds and fundraising
4. Show entrepreneurs how to grow revenues through tools, forecasting, innovation, etc.
